Notes Mandolas or Tenor mandolas are commonly tuned CGDA (a mandolin with the top course missing and with a lower course added) and thus 'sit in between' the mandolin and octave mandola in all aspects - scale, size and tone. They have the cut to be an out and out melody instrument like the mandolin but also have some of the sustain of an octave mandola rendering them extremely enjoyable instruments to play.
