Notes By their nature carved top mandolins have a more direct sound (stronger in the fundamental) than flat tops and have a 'thicker', richer and more complex tone. From behind the instrument the volume is apparently similar to my flat tops but they project more efficiently and and have more headroom to drive if loud chords are needed - great for sessions. The flat back adds a quality to the tone that helps to produce a hybrid sound that has something of the sweetness of flat top in it too. In a nutshell, loud but still bright and full of quality.
Please note that different choices of tonewood will change the tonal characterisics of the instrument. The above description is only a guideline. Please contact me for more detailed information. |
